Verbal Behavior & Communication Technician

ELIGIBILTY STANDARDS / Admission Requirement

  • A minimum of Secondary school leaving Certificate or its Equivalent
  • Age: 18 years and above
  • Therapists, Parent/Guardian
  • Provision of Police report/Criminal Background Report or Sworn Court Affidavit
  • A video clip of a demonstrated specified skills procedure to be attested to by the supervisor as evidence/proof of experiential learning

Coursework Requirement

• A minimum of 42- classroom hours in Verbal Behavior Analysis – CONTENT:

  • An Introduction to Verbal Behavior Analysis
  • Autism and related developmental disabilities/medical conditions with associate communication and language disorders
  • Developmental milestones
  • Ethics, Safe Manual handling, Prevention of Abuse
  • Assessments based on Operant Equation: A – B – C and Interpretation of Intervention plan
  • The 12 mains domains of Verbal Behavior
  • Assessment of Reinforcers/ Cultural sensitivity, Selection & Development of Intervention resource materials
  • Capturing Motivation/Facilitative/Directive Interaction Naturalistic Teaching Versus Contrived Teaching and Activity-Based Intervention
  • Discrete Trial Instruction/Prompts/Types of Prompts, Effective Commands & Discrimination Training
  • Schedules for reinforcement and Reinforcement effectiveness
  • Basic functional Sign Language and Effective use of Functional Communication Album-African Version/ other Augmented Language Apparatus and Data collection/ graphing
